remove the valve cover on # 1 cylinder make sure both intake and exhaust are closed....line up the sprockets with the chain off make sure the dist rotor is pointing to #1 in the cap and make sure you have removed # 1 spark plug....at this point check in the plug hole for #1 that the piston is all the way up on the power stroke....After all this checking and rechecking you are now set to # 1. Got it?? A tip on a small block Chevy v/8 to be sure you are at #1 remove the plugs from #1 and from # 6 as they are companion cylinders in the 18436572 firing order...meaning when #1 is on the top piston up both valves are closed.....# 6 cylinder will also have the piston all the way up....from this point everything else will go as planned...Dist, cam & crank sprockets markings facing each other(cam down crank up) Be sure to silicone the front cover seals where they meet the oil pan rails to avoid any oil leaks.

What is a minimum plain bore sprocket?

A minimum plain bore sprocket is a roller chain sprocket with a hole drilled through the center. A finished bore sprocket is a roller chain sprocket with a hole drilled through the center augmented by either a keyway or set screws.

What do you do For the timing chain where do the timing marks need to be located on top of bottom sprocket and on top or bottom of top sprocket?

the marks have to be pointing each other in the center of the gears

How do you set the timing alignment on a 93 ford ranger?

You will need to set No. 1 cylinder to Top Dead Center on compression stroke, usually vibration dampener will have slot in pulley to align with markings on engine block, and then ensure that camshaft sprocket time marks are also aligned appropriately.

Where should rotor point big block Chevy 71 some say the?

When the #1 piston is at TDC./ TOP DEAD CENTER on the compression stroke the rotor should be pointing towards the #1 cylinder when the distributor is installed correctly.

How do you set the timing belt marks on a 1990 Ford Mustang?

If it is a V8 set the motor at top dead center #1 cylinder a the very top and the cam mark should line up with the middle mark on the crank sprocket or o degrees advanced. it doesnt have a belt, it has a chain. there should be one or two lil dots on the chain and like a very small like on the sprocket, make the dots on the chain line up exact with the sprocket and your good There is one mark (dot) on your came sprocket and one mark (dot) on your crank sprocket right about your crank "key" slot. Align those two marks (cam sprocket mark down, crank sprocket mark up). Now turn your crank 2 complete revolutions and verify that those two marks are in the same location that you originally set them. Obviously you will have to have the chain on. I just installed my millionth and one yesterday.

What is the geological definition of compression?

How do you find top dead center on a ford 5.0 liter engine?

The timing marks are on the vibration damper (front pulley) and a pointer on the front cover. If it is pointing to TDC (0 degrees) on the damper you are at TDC compression stroke or exhaust stroke. If your distributor is still installed and the rotor is pointing to the number plug wire on cap you are at TDC compression stroke. If your distributor is not installed remove number 1 spark plug (front cylinder on passenger side)rotate crankshaft with a socket clockwise, hold your finger over spark plug hole when you are reaching TDC #1you will feel the compression. If there is no compression you are on the exhaust stroke.Rotate crankshaft 360 degrees to reach compression stroke.

How do you replace the timing chain on a 1995 Isuzu Trooper?

1.8L and 2.0L Engines Disconnect the negative battery cable, then rotate the engine until #1 piston is at top dead center on the compression stroke. Remove the rocker arm cover, the front cover, and the oil pan. Depress or lock the shoe of the automatic chain adjuster in the retracted position. Remove the camshaft sprocket-to-camshaft bolts and the sprocket. Remove the timing chain from the timing sprockets. Using a puller, remove the sprocket and the pinion gear from the crankshaft. Remove the bolt or e-clip and remove the automatic chain adjuster. Inspect the adjuster pin, arm, wedge and rack teeth. Replace assembly if worn. Remove the chain tensioner. Check the timing chain for wear. Check the tensioner pins for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Replace the chain tensioner and adjuster using the e-clips or bolt. To install: Install the timing sprocket and pinion gear with the groove side toward the front cover. Align the key grooves with the key on the crankshaft, then, drive into position. Confirm the #1 piston is at top dead center, if not, turn the crankshaft so the key is turned toward the cylinder head side (#1 and #4 pistons at TDC). Install the timing chain by aligning the mark plate on the chain with the mark on the crankshaft timing sprocket. The side of the chain with the mark plate is on the front side and the side of the chain with the most links between the mark plates is on the chain guide side. Install the camshaft timing sprocket so the mark side of the sprocket faces forward and so the triangular mark aligns with the chain mark plate. NOTE: Keep the timing chain engaged with the camshaft timing sprocket until the sprocket is installed on the camshaft. Using a new gasket and sealant, install the front cover assembly. Install the rocker arm cover and oil pan. Refill the cooling system and the crankcase. Connect the negative battery cable. 2.8L and 3.1L Engines Disconnect the negative battery cable. Rotate the crankshaft to position the #1 cylinder at the top dead center of its compression stroke. Remove the front cover. Inspect the sprocket for chipped teeth and wear. Inspect the timing chain for wear, if the chain can be pulled out more than 0.374 in. (9.5mm) from the damper, replace the chain. Remove camshaft sprocket-to-camshaft bolts, the sprocket and the timing chain; if necessary, use a mallet to tap the sprocket from the camshaft. Using a puller tool, pull the crankshaft sprocket from the crankshaft. To install: Using an installation tool and a hammer, drive the crankshaft sprocket onto the crankshaft; make sure the timing mark faces outward. Using Molykote or equivalent, lubricate the camshaft sprocket thrust surface and install the timing chain onto the sprocket. While holding the camshaft sprocket and chain vertically, align the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets. Align the camshaft dowel with the camshaft sprocket hole. Install the camshaft sprocket and torque the bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm). Lubricate the timing chain with engine oil. Install the front cover and crankshaft pulley. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine, then, check and/or adjust the timing.

When the distributor has been removed and the engine turned over what is the procedure for getting timing set right when reinstalling the distributor?

Get number 1 cylinder up to top dead center on the compression stroke and rotate the dist, rotor to the number 1 plug wire when re installed in the motor the dist make take several attempts cause as it is installed it turns as it messes the cam gear.
