Does the gasket for a pool light fixture also hold the housing ring on?

The housing ring, depending on brand, will hold the gasket. Some lights are assembled with a housing ring and screws others have a clamp type ring. There are several types manufactured. Remember to always replace the gasket with a new one when replacing the bulb etc.

∙ 14y agoyes a pool light is a light that takes light bulbs usually it takes about 4 years if used often. if used rarely it takes about 6 years so if a pool light goes out you have 2 options drain the pool then take off the water proof lid (usually screwed on) or if its an above ground pool you should be able to replace the bulb from the back. other wise hire a pool technician too do it for you.

Felpro sells a gasket set for this problem part number ES72671 Remove the oil filter there are two hex screws that are 1/4 inside the housing remove these. You may have to wiggle the housing a little to get it loose. There are also two oil cooler lines running to the housing you can remove both, I only removed the top one. There is a place for the O-Ring on the housing,the gasket goes on top of the housing.

In front of the motor there will be metal housing with two hoses connected to it. That is the thermostat housing.. Once you get the bolts out the thermo should come out without much fuss (take a screwdriver to it and slide it in to pivot it out if needed). Get a gasket with the new thermo throw it on, line it up & re-install the housing cover. I'd also recommend a new housing gasket. You may also want to drain out your anti-freeze to prevent a mess.
