Yes. They really like the sunlight, so its not a bad idea to take a turtle outside for a bit. The temperature in a Box turtle's cage needs to be between 75 and 85 degrees. They also need a source of light for at least 14 hours during the day, and you can turn it off for the night.
Pet Turtles don't need light "all the time", but it is wise to give them roughly 12 hours of time to bask under the UVA and UVB bulbs each and every day.
Yes, baby red eared sliders need the heating light on all of the time, as well as a UVA/UVB during the day.
No, it will totally fry. Unless you want some yummy fried turtle soup for dinner.
Yes. You want to re-create their natural environment to the best of your abilities. It doesn't stay light out all night in nature does it?
Sure why not ?
To keep it warm during hibernation.
If a turtle is cold, it will slow its movements and metabolism in preparation for hibernation. Please make sure you have a water heater and a hot basking lamp, and keep your tank away from doorways and cold-leaking windows.
It should be left on all day, and off all night.
You shouldn't ! Part of their natural cycle is to hibernate during the winter months ! Why deprive a tortoise of it's natural behaviour ?
First of all it's called Red-EARED slider. Secondly if you keep it home he shouldn't hibernate. Unless you really need it, then you have to keep the water always clean and provide the turtle with enough food. Red-Eared Slider should go into hibernation state when the temperature of air drops below 10 degrees. But still I advice you to keep him out of getting into hibernation.
Hedgehogs go into hibernation, like bears in the winter. If you have a pet hedgehog, it should NOT go into hibernation, for it can lead to health problems. If your hedgehog pet is going into hibernation, stop it and warm him/her ASAP. A sign him/her might be going into hibernation is a cold belly.
No ... Its illegal to keep star turtle in India
Here are the 4 seasons of what they do: summer- they come out and explore spring- they wake up from hibernation fall- getting ready for hibernation winter- they start hibernating
It is best not to keep a turtle as a pet. Rather sponsor the survival of a turtle in the wild.
No you,will kill the turtle.
We keep turtle and snake in same class because both are reptiles.
Depends, if it is not warmed up but placed back into it's hole it will likely go back o sleep but if it is disturbed and moved about in warmth and not returned to below 50 degrees shortly it will become active although it may take a day or two. If kept in warmth with at least 12 hours of daylight it will become more active with time and totally leave the hibernating state within hours or days. Hibernation is important to hormone regulation and can affect breeding if it is not allowed to hibernate. The length of hibernation, however is not important, 4 - 6 weeks can suffice to help keep the turtle healthy and a turtle should never be allowed to hibernate unless it has a healthy weight and no ailments. Shortening of daylight hours in fall is what triggers the instinct to hibernate, the turtle stops eating and when temps decline they dig in.
