No. You need butter in most traditional ones. Cream cheese in some. Egg whites and sugar and vanilla in a classic one. Look up recipees for frosting on the internet and if you are allergic to an ingredient, look up those recipees that don't require it.

My favorite easy homemade frosting recipes contains only 4 ingredients: butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Mix 3 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 tsp. vanilla & approximately 4 T. milk. It's quick to make & absolutely yummy!
To correctly answer this I would need to see the recipe. But many frosting recipes require you to only soften the butter and never to melt it. In order to have a frosting turn out thick the butter needs to be softened. If it's melted it won't properly combine with the other ingredients.

Yes. Cake frosting and cupcake frosting are the exact same thing. They are generally made from a butter-cream using butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. There are thousands of frosting recipes and virtually all of them can be used interchangeably for both cakes and cupcakes.
Sure you can! A good deal of vegan recipes use almond milk.
Cakes can be decorated with sweetened whipped cream, then kept for a short time in the refrigerator before serving. Decorative frosting need not include cream, even though a number of recipes are called "butter cream frosting." Although there are many recipes, this type of frosting typically is made of powdered sugar combined with butter or shortening, then thinned slightly with milk or water.

Generally, when you think of easy cake recipes, you're picturing ones that come in a box. If you are going to use these types of recipes, you absolutely need to make sure they are at least decent in nutritional value. The same rule applies frosting. Making your own is healthier, but it is not always easier. However, frosting does not take terribly long to make, so you should at least look into some of the recipes. Choose recipes that do not use a lot of sugar and that replace eggs with egg whites. When the cake is ready, do not overdo the eating.
