to test ht lead with out taking it out of coil pack. All you have to do is remove the 1 cylinder ht lead and pull the cylinder 5 ht lead out aswell and measure the resistance with multi meter. so now it will give you the reading. so its 1,5---2,6---3,4 ht leads.

you need to pull the leads of holding the rubberised metal casing. wiggle it up and down as you are pulling. It is quite tight.

I had similar problems with mine the end up with mis-fires, it was down to the HT leads (spark plug leads) on my 99 1.6 Zetec. This was after I changed plugs, lamda, maF, and valve cover gaskets which many people said was the problem. The story I have heard is the coil of this engine is the same as the 2L but when this change was made they did not upgrade the HT leads to take the higher ampage needed.

The most important thing is that you change 1 at a time so you dont get confused and put the wrong lead on the wrong plug. So take 1 HT lead and remove it from the spark plug and follow the lead back to the distributor cap and remove it from there. then replace the lead with a new one. Repeat.
