I believe most mechanics recommend turning the rotors anytime the brake pads are replaced. Otherwise, any gouges or flaws in the rotor will reduce brake pad life significantly.

Do you need to grind the rotors when placing new brake pads?

If the rotors are in good condition, not warped, not scratched, then you can replace the pads without turning the rotors. Inspect the rotors carefully.

How much are new brakes for 1997 Ford Taurus?

More detail is needed . Do you mean disc pads, or pads and rotors, or calipers with pads and rotors, or completely new calipers, brakelines and master cylinder. -All of these are viable but different options.-You need to be MUCH more specific in what you want.More detail is needed . Do you need to replace rotors if the pads still have surfacing left?

You replace rotors when they get too thin, or are warped. They may be to thin to be turned and still alright to use. Rotors do not "have to" be turned to put new pads on.

How many miles before you should change your rotors?

As long as your rotors are not warped, or you have not let the brake pads wear to the point they defaced the rotors, there is no need to change them. Just install new brake pads. Rotors can last the life of the car.

Do new rotors need to be machined before use?

No just put them on. If they were bad they could be sued for a defective product. Actually Honda/Acura specify that NEW rotors be "refinished" with an on-car brake lathe...

What is the cause of a grinding noise coming from the rear endof a 1998 dodge avenger?

Sounds like you need a new set of brake pads and might have to get the rotors turned. Sounds like you need a new set of brake pads and might have to get the rotors turned.

Brake pulsation New hubs and Rotors?

I don't know if you are saying you have the new hubs and rotors and still have pulsation, or if you are asking what causes pulsation. If you have pulsation on slowing this is due to warped rotors, and you need to change the rotors and the brake pads, not the hubs. Not too expensive: 2 rotors and brake pads for my Pontiac is about 55 bucks. DIY of course.

Do you need to change brake pads when you turn rotors?

Depends how bad the rotors were. And how old the pads are. The pads will wear into the shape of the rotor surface. So new flat rotors will wear old pads much faster until they wear down to conform to the new surface. Also this could damage the rotor surface. Its cheap insurance just to put new pads in. Its a quick job since the brakes are all apart anyway.

Chrysler front end shakes when you hit the brakes?

Your rotors are warped. You need new brake pads and the rotors turned at a machine shop or replaced.

Why does the steering wheel shudder when braking?

Need new rotors...pads in my case, same thing happened to me...

How do you know when to change your brake pads?

If you hear a grinding sound when you hit the brakes you probably need new brake pads. Good chance you will also need new rotors. Take the tire(s) off and look at the pads. If the metal part is about to touch the rotor you need new pads. Let it go a little longer and you may need new rotors. Some pads have a small metal tab that will touch the rotor when you need new pads. It will cause a squealing noise when you hit the breaks. When you hear the squeal you need to replace the pads. If you ignore the squeal long enough you may also need new rotors Normally you have a early warning system on most vechicules that is simple when your car is in motion and the brake pedal is not depressed you will hear a squeaking sound which gives you a warning that it is time for the wallet to be opened.
