NO THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY TO MESS UP THE DISTRIBUTOR. It reads light pulses on the camshaft to determine timing. I put mine on without paying attention, and it worked fine.

It could be because if the fuel isn't being distributed through the engine, it won't start. Camaro's have this problem a lot. It could be the ignition too. try replacing the fuel pump, then if that doesn't work, try the distributor cap and rotor, and ignition wiring
under the distributor cap
