On most cars you do have to drop the fuel tank to access the pump. With trucks you can actually lift the inside of the bed. I have never worked on a beretta but am assuming that you will have to, just like with any other gm car. Especially of that year.

no you cant. to replace the fuel pump for this model you have to remove the fuel tank. to remove the tank you have to pick up the car.

The fuel pump is in the top of the fuel tank therefore you must remove the fuel tank, not hard to do, fuel pump alone will run you about $100.00, with all accessories close to $200.00, I've changed a few and never had to replace the whole thing, just the pump.
you have to remove the fuel lines going to the top of the tank. then drop the tank. then turn the retaining ring on top and remove it. then you can pull the float/pump assembly and repair or replace. it's built together.
The fuel pump is down in the gas tank. Remove the tank and you will see where the fuel pump is plugged in. Just remove the bolts and unplug everything and reverse the procedure with your new pump.

The Fuel pump sending unit has gone bad. Replace fuel pump assembly, not just the pump.
