For 1987 - 1996 Dakota trucks : It is recommended that bolt and hole threads first be chased with appropriate taps and dies (dirty or damaged threads can affect torque readings). Also recommended is to coat the bolt threads with non-hardening sealant such as Permatex no. 2 or similar product. Install the all of the bolts finger tight to start. Then tighten in several steps to 50 ft-lbs in the following pattern (from 1 to 8 in order) --- 7 - 3 - 1 - 5 (top row) 8 - 4 - 2 - 6 (bottom row) Now repeat the same tightening sequence and pattern in several more steps to 105 ft-lbs to finish the job.

Loosen all bolts in sequence a full 360* turn. tighten bolts to 20-24 ft/lbs, then tighten bolts an additional 85-95* then repeat last step again an ADDITIONAL 85-95* 6 4 2 8 5 1 3 7 TORQUE SEQUENCE
