Barack Obama has been very supportive of the US Military, as has his wife Michelle. Both the Obamas have tried to improve conditions for military families, and Mr. Obama ended the war in Iraq and brought the majority of the troops home. The president has also had a positive relationship with both of his secretaries of defense, one of whom was a Republican and the other a Democrat.

Barack Obama, as president, is commander in chief of the U.S. military. He has a Secretary of Defense who reports to him, and he is also informed by members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who advise on military matters.

Absolutely. You can see many news videos of him, when he gets off of Air Force One, making the salute to the member of the military that greets his plane. He also salutes them in words: he expresses his appreciation for them on a regular basis, and tries to help them in other ways. There are some internet myths, spread by his political opponents, that he disrespects the troops, but these myths are not accurate.

President Obama has been a strong supporter of the military, and has been very proactive about fighting terrorism. Domestically, he has tried to increase veterans' benefits and improve their health care, as well as sponsoring initiatives to get businesses to hire more veterans. Several of his most trusted advisers come from a military background, and he has reached out to both Republican and Democratic military men and women.

That said, it should be noted that statistically, a majority of the military have identified with the Republican party for a number of years. But Mr. Obama has consistently received about 40-45% of the military vote; and there are even some Republican generals and colonels who have expressed support for his policies. It should also be noted that various internet claims he doesn't respect the military are partisan myths, with no truth behind them at all.
