No, just like online for all other sony products online is free.

You have to pay for an internet connection, just like all internet connections, but once you have the connection there is no additional charge. If you already have an internet connection you need to pay for only the new hardware you might need. For instance if you only have a cable modem you will need to purchase a router or rent one from your cable provider.

No it is not free you must pay for your internet service. The Playstation Network is free and if you already have an unlimited internet service using the PS3 will be free after you purchase any needed connection hardware (IE wireless router or ethernet cable)
