there are two kinds of timing marks. one is for ignition timing and one for valve timing.
I just changed a timing belt in a buddys 1990 accord and you need to set the marks on the pulleys to same direction as your crank pulley mark is.
A timing belt replacement requires loosening the tensioner. Several major components will also need removal. The belt will then be able to slide off, be sure to install the new belt with the correct timing marks.
The hole for the timing marks is located on the front of the engine, right below the distributor. You'll have to remove the hood to get a good angle for the timing light (I don't know why they designed it that way).
