Timing marks for timing chain 93 BMW?
do you have to change a timing belt on a 93 318 is BMW
I asked a service rep at Classic BMW in Plano that question and he said "never". The 740 has a timing chain, not a timing belt. Cars with timing belts usually have to change it every 80-100k miles, but this does not apply to timing chains. If your timing chain is intact, you should not have to have it replaced. Chains do not stretch or wear out. More likely, if you have a E38 (1994-2001)…
Although the year, specific model, and engine size is not stated in the question, here are some general guidelines: All the 4 cylinder BMW 3-series (318i, 320i) had a timing chain. From 1984 to 1991, the 6 cyl (325 series) had a timing belt. From 1992 and up, the 6 cyl (323, 325, 328, 335 series) had a timing chain.
