The 240sx had the HICAS option only from 1991 to 1993. It came with:

1- HICAS system (4- wheel steering)

2- A 1.5- way VLSD (also known limited slip differential, good for street but not track)

3- A little bit bigger stock rims (205's instead of 195's)

4- Front and Rear anti- sway bars (handles like a dream from the factory)

The HICAS 240sx is only good for daily driving or for road courses. It is a very popular choice for SCCA stock car events.

If you are going to drift, a HICAS system would not be a good choice, as it fights what you are trying to do. When you try to go even a little sideways, the rear HICAS linkage will react to the front wheels turning and try to compensate by turning the rear wheels no more than 1 degree in the opposite direction. This will in effect stop you from sliding as it will try to "correct" your "loss" of control.

You can still drift a HICAS 240sx, but it is not reccomended. You will most likely break something in the rear linkage. Take it from me, I own a '93 HICAS, and have experienced what happens when you try to do these things. If you want to acheive the best performance, a 1990 with a dual cam KA or SR swap would be your best bet. The '89 and '90 are the lightest of all the model years, and the dual cam has the most upgrade potential. (1989-90 single cam) (1993-1998 dual cam) If you need anymore info you can email me at phillip.rice@gmail.com, or check sites like 240sx.org. nicoclub.com, zilvia.net. I am not an expert mechanic, but I do know ALOT about 240's, and can probably answer most questions.
