It depends..is the car an eco diesel? if so then yes it does have a cat. Check under your hood above the rad for a decal, if it says non catalyst in black bold letters, then no you dont need a catalytic converter.

Catalytic converter plugged?
Should be approx. 4.5L with an oil filter change. I recommend using Shell rotella 15w-40 oil. -1991 Diesel Jetta/1986 Diesel Golf/ 1985 Gas Jetta owner
cant repair a Catalytic converter only replace at a muffler shop
YES IT DOES. Yes it does.
Its welded.
Yes.
If a catalytic converter is indeed bad, it's far more cost-effective to replace it rather than try to repair it
Your catalytic converter is at the top of your motor at the exhaust manifold take out the 4 14mm screws that connect your converter to your manifold drop down out the bottom of engine and replace another really simple fix
In the main exhaust pipe just under the front passenger seat
Chevy dealer, auto parts store, etc.
In the exhaust pipe in front of the catalytic converter...close to engine in crossover pipe
I am sure this would be possible, but it would no longer be legal to drive.
