When you put the new oil filter on and tighten the drain plug (Cummins recommends 35 lbs/ft of torque for their drain plugs), you can either pre-fill the filter with oil or fill the engine up until the dipstick reads full, then run the engine for about a minute to fill up the oil filter, then top the engine off.If you have the MaxxForce, you'll use either a 1-1/4" or 32mm socket to loosen the drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan. The filters on these are internal, and you'll use a 36mm socket to open up the housings.
