A bad fuel pump can cause stalling. The oil pressure will show low oil on the lights or gauges but if the pressure is ok then the switch should not cause stalling.
What, exactly, is the problem?
The button should be pushed in , if the button has popped up/out the switch has been tripped and there would be no power going to the electric fuel pump
if you're going through the trouble of dropping the fuel tank, I'd just put a new one in and be done with it
I know that on a '96 the fuel filter is an in-line type near the fuel tank. As Pontiac hasn't really altered much on the Sunfire in over ten years, I'd suggest starting there.
It's underneath the car in the rear. Look just ahead of the fuel tank on the passenger side.

The 96 Neon sohc does not have a pump reset switch. Some vehicles do have a reset switch for safety in an accident.
