Does a full moon effect the oceans tide no why then does the news keep saying sandy hit the east coast as a cat 1 at high tide and a full moon?

The New Moon and Full Moon stages cause high tides. This has nothing to do with hurricanes. Hurricanes are caused by thunderstorms in Africa, which are drifted out over warm ocean waters to eventually reaching us as a hurricane. Hurricanes are not water tides.
Comment: But hurricanes can obviously cause surges of water along coasts.
High tides would make this worse.
(I don't think it's got too much to do with Africa either.)
Counter Comment: "Most Atlantic hurricanes start to take shape when thunderstorms along the west coast of Africa drift out over warm ocean waters(...)" and right, high tides does add on to the effect of flooding, but doesn't make the hurricane itself any stronger.
