In theory, if you just wanted to lose weight you could go into orbit around the Earth and become weightless. In practice, that is not such an easy thing to do. Nonetheless, what we really lose by dieting is mass. Mass has a certain weight here on the surface of planet Earth, but weight does depend on location, and mass doesn't.

dieting leads to loss of mass which consequently leads to loss in weight (coz weight is the product of mass and the gravitational acceleration of earth... weight of a body is aaproximately equal to ten times the mass of the body)

Technically, most people diet to lose mass. They are trying to improve their appearance and health, and assuming they are overweight, a loss of mass is what would do that. You could lose weight by flying to the moon, but you'd be no more fit than you were before you started your trip. For most people the distinction between losing weight and mass is one of semantics, because as long as we're not flying to the moon, a loss of weight would correspond with a loss of mass and vice versa.

There are a few that have a mental fixation with their weight, rather than with their appearance and health. Their focus is with the number on the scale, so they are trying to lose weight.

For most of us, a trip to the moon (where we would weigh less, but have the same mass) would do nothing for our satisfaction with the sate of our body. For those few that have that mental fixation with the number on the scale, that same trip would likely make them giddy about their loss of weight.

Why have you not lost weight even though you work out?

In most cases where a person is not losing weight, with exercise, can lie on the design of their Exercise and Diet Regiment. Here are two examples why an improper Exercise and Diet Regiment can be the cause.Example of an improper diet being the cause of no weight lost:A person that is over weight considerably, can show a reduction of weight lost if the the designed exerciser and diet helps in the reduction of fatty tissue. If the over weight person's exercise burns a lot of calories, the diet may be adding those calories back and then some.Example of an improper exercise being the cause of no weight lost:If the person is considered slightly over weight, they may not see an adverse effect of losing weight. They may be reducing the fatty tissue weight but at the same time, building muscle mass which can add weight. This is not a bad thing but if the goal is to lose weight, you would have to find a more suitable exercise which will lose more fatty tissue and build less muscle mass.
