No, they are not, because they are the same kind of dog, just younger or older. I agree but in a way i disagree because an older dog sheds much more than a puppy because of course they have longer and much more hair.

Both the Bernese Mountain dog and the Golden Retriever would make a great dog for a beginner. Bernese Mountain dogs tend to shed less but are slightly less social around strangers than the Golden. The Golden does require more trimming/clipping than the Bernese however they are easier to train and don't grow to be giant like the Bernese. Both of these dogs are just about equal so whichever one you choose is going to be determined by your own personal preference.
