You have to adjust the tie rods ends between the steering arm and the power steering gear, just make sure your wheels are set straight ahead, and that you don't have any alignment problems. If you don't want to do this on your own take the Blazer to your nearest alignment center and have them center your steering wheel.
A steering pump will have to be added, as well as hoses, and changing the steering box to a power steering type. If the 69 Ranchero had power steering as an option you may be able to find exact fitting parts. if not, the brackets and steering box will have to be modified to fit.
Auto alignment can go out of whack when you hit a curb or are in an accident. The best way to tell if your alignment needs to adjusted is to find a straight empty road, speed up accordingly, and then lift your hands less than an inch off of the wheel. While under no power, if the car drifts to either the left or right then you might want professional advice on the steering/alignment. Basically its like changing the oil in the motor. Just to extend the life of the steering system
Only assists turning-makes no difference regarding wear. Improper alignment can be detrimental to tire life.
The power steering stays where it is at. There is only 1 bracket that won't hook up and that is the one that bolts to the factory exhaust manifold. You will have to modify that bracket are make a bracket that will hold the power steering pump and keep it from moving.
the only way this can happen is if the power steering pump shaft goes bad and forces the belt out of alignment. The crank shaft is ok
