the only way this can happen is if the Power Steering pump shaft goes bad and forces the belt out of alignment. The crank shaft is ok
Most likely one of the pulleys is out of alignment. Be sure to look at the crank pulley to make sure it is rotating in a true circle.
I encountered the same problem on my 95 Pontiac Transport 3800. An additional problem was every time it rained and the serpentine belt got wet it come off. That was caused by the combination of theTensioner being weak and the Crank Damper pulley which had moved and eating off the front row of nodules. After the local Pontiac dealers Mechanic had diagnosed the Transport, their Service Manager explained to me what the cause of my problem was. The Crank Damper Pulley moving was the primary cause of the serpentine belt moving. Replacement of the Crank Damper Pulley and the Tensioner corrected both the problems. Hope this helps you.
around the crank pulley them over to the idler pulley then arounmd a/c pulley up to the alt. pulley then to the p/s pulley to the tentioner. there wasnt that easy
take off the serpentine belt and crank pulley and you will need a harmonic balancer pulley to get it off.
take the serpentine belt off and then take the crank pulley off the balancer and then you will need a puller to get the balancer off the crank.
After removing the right front tire and fender liner, you remove the serpentine belt. You then remove the crank bolt and use a puller to remove the pulley. After removing the right front tire and fender liner, you remove the serpentine belt. no. there totally different. the timing belt is connected to the crank pulley and the cam shaft pulley. the serpentine belt is attached to your ac if you have it, the alternator, water pump, and power steering pump (but you have a crx like me so you have rack and pinoin unless converted to power) and is driven by the crank pulley. the crank pulley usually has 2 belts running off of it a external belt and a internal belt or chain. internals timing. exturnal is the other belt
The pulley that actually makes the belt move is the crank shaft pulley. It's usually the largest one at the bottom center of the engine's front.
It is important to have the belts of a car put in the right direction. This serpentine belt goes around the AC compressor, above the AC tensioner, under the crank pulley, around the power steering, over the alternator pulley, under the idle pulley, around the w/p,and behind the tensioner.ÊÊ
the bottom of the engine, near the lowest pulley with the serpentine belt wrapped around it. on your routing diagram, that pulley will be marked "Crank" just behind this pulley there is a gear that looks like it's missing a tooth. look for something that either partially covers or is near that gear, that has a wire going to it, that's your crank position sensor. autozone.com has excellent diagrams for it's location.
In most cases the crank pulley bolts to the balancer so the crank pulley would not be the same as the harmonic balancer.
Remove serpentine belt. Remove damper pulley with puller. Remove oil seal.
