take a battery cable off
It is one of hundreds of things that could turn the check engine light on.
The check engine light does not generally have anything to do with the check oil light. The oil light just indicated it is time to change the oil, while the engine light indicates a problem.
take off the positive cable on the bettery and turn on the key switch for 5 minuts then put battery cable back on and the check engine light should be off
Check the cable.
Normally it is a battery/cable issue. Check the terminals(make sure they are clean). Check the grounding cable on the frame/engine. Other than that check the ignition system.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for about two minutes and that should reset your check engine light.
Not enough information to help you. Give us the year, make, model, engine and what cable you are asking about.
Did you reset the Check Engine light? If not, reset by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes. This will erase the computer. Reconnect the battery cable and if everything is OK, the Check Engine light should be off.
to reset "check engine light"- (on '05 freestyle) remove the negative cable from the battery for at least 20 min. It worked for me
