The Clarinet is a wonderful jazz instrument, and was common in the earliest jazz bands. The clarinet has been overshadowed by the Saxophone as the woodwind voice in larger ensembles, largely because the saxophone is louder and can compete with brass sections. Saxophonists in professional jazz bands are generally expected to play the clarinet as well.
In smaller groups, clarinets remain popular for their large range, beautiful and expressive sound and their agility.
Some of the earliest jazz stars that played clarinet include Johnny Dodds and Sidney Bechet (who was later better known for playing soprano sax).
Big bands in the 1930's and later included several that were led by clarinetists, notably Benny Goodman, Woody Herman and Artie Shaw. Goodman also recorded many albums with smaller ensembles. More recently, Buddy DeFranco and Eddie Daniels have been very popular.
As far as I know, I haven't seen a single clarinet in a jazz band (sure in a marching band, but not in jazz). My friends who play clarinet are also in the jazz band, but intead of playing their clarinets, their switch/use saxophones instead. So, no, I don't think clarinet is a jazz instrument.
Yes The Clarinet also is used in marching bands, jazz bands, and as a solo instrument.
I don't think any jazz musicians played clarinet. Jazz has brass instruments.
Yes. It could play jazz, but it usually plays orchestra, slow pretty songs, or upbeat music. Also the famous clarinet player, Woody Allen has played jazz.
The clarinet can play any genre of music from old-timey jazz to modern day rock and pop. The only limitation is the skill of the musician.
drums Also, saxophone, keyboards, guitar, clarinet, and trumpet.
In my opinion it's a tie between Dixieland and clarinet marmalade

It depends: there have been many famous clarinet jazz players, but as a whole, clarinets are not usually in jazz bands
Clarinets are used in many different ensembles, rangng from Orchestras to swing bands. There are also clarinet choirs where all different types of clarinet play in harmony. Clarinets were also used alot in the Big Band era into the 1940s. Glann Millers Big Band found what it was looking for in the 1940s when a clarinettist joined them.
Clarinets are used in any and every musical ensemble. Symphonic bands, symphonic orchestras, jazz, marching bands... Some places even have clarinet choirs devoted entirely to the various clarinets.
