In fact, it does harm your knuckles! I'm the living proof. It doesn't hurt, but the joints I cracked are swollen. The XRay scans certainly didn't look pretty. Probably damaged ligaments said the doctor. In case you wonder: my general health is excellent, I have never broken a bone in my life and no one in my family has arthritis, neither do I. So, speaking from experience, please be careful. It does not make your fingers less functional, but it does make them ugly. That is, 3 to 5 millimeters extra on every side of a cracked knuckle.
My currently malformed fingers give me a serious psychological strain. I always close my hands, slightly hiding it. In public I even try to imagine the viewing angle of others and turn my hands accordingly. Some dreams I have, like speaking in front of a public, will never come true just because of the fear it gives me. It's not a fun situation and if the damage could be reversed I would do so right away. Even now I hope for a future medical evolution making it possible to have this reversed.
I've been cracking my fingers from age 10. That's when it all started. I saw an aunt doing it, and I wanted to try the same. I couldn't crack mine vertically, but with a little effort it did work horizontally. I've been very stressed during my youth and somehow this released my stress a bit. I gradually turned it into a habit. I cracked my fingers whenever I could, maybe every 15 to 30 minutes, almost every single day. I believe that from age 12-13 it became visible and towards age 15 it was rather severe. Over 15 years later I'm not where I wanted to be. My current job (webdeveloper) allows me to feel more comfortable, but my real dream would be to work with people, not with computers. As you can see, this has quite an impact.
You may cope with it better than me, but I do not wish such a thing for you.
No, cracking your knuckles does not shorten your fingers. The sound you hear when cracking your knuckles is caused by gas bubbles in the synovial fluid within your joints. There is no evidence to suggest that cracking your knuckles has any long-term effects on the length of your fingers.
No, cracking your knuckles does not cause arthritis. The sound comes from small pockets of gas in the joint releasing. Studies have not found a direct link between knuckle cracking and arthritis.
No, cracking your knuckles is not typically a sign of aggression. It is often a habit that some people have and is usually harmless. It does not have a direct link to aggression.
He was cracking jokes all night, making everyone laugh at the party.
Cracking your knuckles may not cause arthritis, but it can lead to reduced grip strength and swelling in some cases. Frequent knuckle cracking may also weaken the ligaments surrounding the joints over time.
If you stop cracking your knuckles, they may eventually return to their normal state. Continued cracking can lead to joint inflammation and reduced grip strength over time, so it's best to avoid the habit to prevent long-term damage.
No. There is no evidence that cracking your knuckles or fingers will lead to any adverse consequence (not even arthritis).
No. Cracking the knuckles does not damage tot he joint.
I know cracking knuckles leads to fat knuckles when older. So cracking toe knuckles can be harmful. Their only good when you crack them while stretching, not for fun
There is no data linking swollen wrists with knuckle cracking. In fact, there is no data linking knuckle cracking with swollen knuckles or arthritis.
Bending your fingers is a more likely reason that they are wrinkled.
no I've being doing that for years and noting happened to my fingers.
Most people say cracking knuckles leads to arthritis. It doesn't! I wouldn't recommend cracking your fingers all the time, and I personally don't like cracking fingers in the cold. You can, if you want to, but it hurts. I think the weather of the cold air affects the finger joints which make them stiff and harder to crack. Cracking your fingers also open your joint air holes, so you'll be okay. Cracking fingers are mostly fine to do!!
When gas bubbles in your fingers pop, does not damage to body, just gas.....
yes it does. it could cause cancer in your fingers.
Because it sounds like your breaking your fingers. the vision of that is gross, and when your older your fingers wont work aswell. =]
Cracking knuckles sound like cracking knuckles
Its difficult to get rid of the habit of cracking your knuckles but you have to think of the risks of arthritis and other problems that may occur. What i usually do is either keep my fingers away from each other or have one hand occupied by twirling my pencil, tapping the desk, or crossing my arms. You just have to get the idea of cracking your knuckles out so you can get rid of that urge to pop them.
