Erythromycin can be used in the treatment of dental abscesses, however it is typically reserved for use in patients that have a history of allergy with the penicillin family of antibiotics which are generally the medications of first choice.

Yes, I am using erythromycin right now. My face is a little swollen because i have an infection in one of my top back teeth. It has an anti-imflammitory in it so will help with my swelling, i have teamed it with corsodyl antibacterial mouthwash which is for gum and mouth problems which is the best one to use.
Only started using them today took my first one an hour ago.

Can you have a tooth abscess without symptoms?

Yes, when it first starts. I had a tooth that had no problem, but was getting a bridge made so my dentist wanted to pull a particular tooth (too thin to hold the bridge) and found an abscess under the tooth that was just forming. If he hadn't pulled the tooth I am sure that I would have had to see a dentist in the near future for an abscess. Abscess' don't show up on x-rays.

Can you treat abscess tooth with smz tmp?

Yes you can, I had a really bad abcess tooth for 8 days, then started taking smz tmp and 95% of the swelling has stopped. Next step is the dentist. There is no quick fix for an abcess tooth, eventually you have to see a dentist.
