Does heavy bleeding with clots always turn out to be a miscarriage or is there a possiblity that the pregnancy could be viable and if so what are the possible causes of the bleeding?

heavy bleeding does not always mean miscarriage. there could have been a blood clot or a tear but i have heard a few women talk about heavy bleeding and thought they were miscarrying but were fine.

It is possible, but the bleeding could also have been from implantation bleeding. A pregnancy test will show positive for a while after a miscarriage because your body has not rid itself of the HCG (pregnancy hormone) levels yet. I would still be on the lookout for any symptoms of pregnancy, continue taking your prenatal vitamins (or at least folic acid), refrain from alcohol and tobacco and caffeine then in a couple weeks take another test and see. Or you can go to the doctor to either confirm pregnancy or miscarriage.

This is difficult to answer. It depends on whether you performed one or more pregnancy tests. If you only took one test then its very possible this test was faulty but false positives are not as common as false negatives.
