However I encourage you to think about the pros and cons of filing a claim. For instance if the water did $750 of damage to the kitchen floor, and your policy has a $500 deductible then you may not want to file a $250 claim. If you have filed another water claim in the last 5 years, then you may not want to file another one (unless it's something that you really cannot afford to pay yourself). The reason for this is that insurance companies look cautiously on homeowners with a history of water, theft, and liability claims.
