Sometimes that is just what hamsters do. It is more common after the first litter. If they are stressed in any way, it could happen. If they have a litter of babies, the best thing to do is just check the food and water, but otherwise leave them alone. I am not sure how valid it is, but I have also heard that feeding hamsters meats like Hot Dogs or bits of lunch meat will increase the chances they eat their litter later as well.
