Schwann cells have at least two functions. They have much fat in them and they act as an insulator. Much like the covering on the cords you have in your home. It prevents short circuits. (Think what would happen to you if the cord you are plugging had no covering). The other function is the space between the cells on the axon (cord). This allows the impulse to jump from space to space and the impulse is more rapid with schwann cells.
to allowed gas exchange, water transport and also for ion movement. For aquatic plants, this give buoyancy.

Intercellular spaces are there for gas exchange between cells. Because of these spaces, cells deeper in the tissue can get the gas. If not, only the cells on the surface will get what they need.
The spaces between cells are pores or air spaces. These spaces are scientifically called intercellular or extracellular spaces or material.
Every particle has empty space or voids between each other called intermolecular or interparticle spaces......
Corneocytes are cells in the stratum corneum, which is the outer skin layer. Corneocytes are stacked to form slightly overlapping columns perpendicular to the skin surface. Individual corneocytes are held together by desmosomes, which bridge adjacent epithelial cells, and by intercellular lipids that seal the space between adjacent cells. The main lipid constituents are cholesterol, free fatty acids, and ceramides. Lipid molecules are covalently bound to the corneocyte membrane and also orient in crystalline multilamellar structures in the intercellular space, forming a tight junction and creating a high resistance to penetration between the cells within the tight clusters.
