As long as educational and economic inequalities continue to be perpetuated for some segments of society, then racism still exists. Educational inequalities produce economic ones. Then it's an endless process, since most school systems are allocated money according to the community's tax base. Generational poverty creates people who don't see any way to improve their lot in life, nor any reason to strive for a better education or even stay in school. A lot if not most of what we learn as children is through what the adults around us model, and if most of what you see around you is people who can't get ahead and so have given up, then that's what you learn--why bother? People who have "come up by their boot straps" usually did so because that's what was modeled to them. Unfortunately, they often don't recognize this because modeling is absorbed on a sub-conscious basis--they just think that their "group" is more motivated, possibly even more intelligent, and that the poverty of other "groups" is due to laziness or stupidity. But it's not--it's due to that fact that NO ONE THEY KNOW gets ahead using the means that mainstream America uses. So they give up, and thus inequality and racism are perpetuated.
