Yes, the rash associated with strep throat is called scarlet fever or scarletina. It is a rough, red, sandpaper like rash, and can be accompanied by a fever over 101, aches/pains, headache, nausea/vomiting, stomachache, sore throat or difficulty swallowing/swollen throat, and swollen lymph nodes on the neck. If you think you may have strep throat, please seek medical attention to get antibiotics.

Yes. My son had strep last year with no fever and just a sore throat and a cold and he had strep. They gave him arithromyacin and strong antihistimines and he got better. Last night he was at band camp and he got a very huge rash all over his body. I raced him to my dr who fortunately has night time hours now and the dr said it was an allergic reaction. I told him that I think it may be strep and that I think he should test him. He did and it turned out that he has strep again and the dr was really surprised that I was right. You absolutely can have strep with no fever and a rash can be a sign of it. I think its other wise known as scarlet fever. He seems to be doing better this morning after 2 doses of arithromyacin, one last night and one this morning plus antihistimines

Can children get a scarlet fever rash without having strep throat?

Yes, ... my son recently approached me one night with a red, rough rash that resembled tiny little bumps all over his chest and his back. The rash hadn't yet spread to the lower abomen and back, but we went to the ER to get checked out. He did not have a fever, his throat was red - according to the Dr., and he maybe had a slight cough, but nothing really persistent. Definietly nothing that would have me concerned that he might have strep throat...His throat culture for strep came back negative, but the Dr. placed him on antibotics for ten days...the rash cleared up in around two days, and it never spread further....so I am still questioning whether or not this was due to strep throat, but it makes sense. They called it a "Scarletina" rash. - from strep. They also said even though a culture comes back negative, you can't always trust the results. My son is fine now, and no more rash!
