It all depends on what the adopted definition of environment is in the "environment for this question"! Speaking at a high level ie.. space ship earth, the television probably is one of the major consumers of power after HVAC, and Cleaning needs in many households it may be consuming more power than the power used for lighting! Conversely it is making many of us fatter thereby contributing to over consumption of food resources, medical resources and even causing an increase in green house gasses (due to increased weight being carted around in vehicles and yes the belching and farting as well). When you think of the impact on the human mind, we are reading less and becoming addicted to the need for videos for simple informational or explanatory purposes. The internet is going the way of TV with more and more videos and less and less printed matter. Reading and comprehension is decreasing rapidly as per school scores here in the US.
