the actual air filter is a sealed, non-replacabe element that is located inside the driver's side wheel well. i have an '05 focus zx4 sedan with the 2.0L Duratex (non PZEV) engine. instead of spending $400+ to ford for a new sealed unit, i modified my focus to a cold air intake (CAI) for under $100. got better gas milage and about 7 more hp.
