It usually comes as an option but with the FX I'm not sure if it comes standard.You would have to know the VIN number and go to Fords web site and enter it in and it should tell you what it came with from the factory. You can also get the tag number off the axle and take it to a Ford dealer and they can tell you also.

F-150 has never had a locking differential until the 2009 F-150 FX4 model. Only choices before the 2009MY was a limited slip or open differential.
On the 1997 Ford F150, the differential could be in both the front and rear. From 1997 and on Ford used two different axles. Your truck could either have the 8.8 or 9.75 differential. If you have a rear differential you would need to lower your spare tire to have access to it.
I believe that is a 3.55 conventional axle ( non - limited slip )

The starter relay is located on the battery side of the engine compartment on a 2002 F150 pick up truck. It is on the firewall close to the battery.
