No , it is just a heating element similar to an electric kettle ( as long as it
is plugged in and the power is flowing the block heater is still " on " )
You can use a timer or some other method to cut down on your electrical
use if you like , as far as I know a well maintained vehicle doesn't gain
anything after the block heater is plugged in for 3 or 4 hours , although you can
leave it plugged in longer if you want
