There are several reasons why a warning light may be on in a Ford Fiesta. Some reasons could be brakes, loose gap cap, or even low fluids.
It varies. On older Fiestas e.g. mk2 and mk3 up to year 1994 the fuel cap has a keyhole. The key (originally the ignition/door lock key - good way to determine if the cap has been changed at any point) is inserted and turned right at ~90 degrees to release the fuel cap. On models after 1994 however, the design was changed to have a lid over the fuel cap.

It's the bottle under the bonnet with the cap and a wire on it.
Turn fuel cap until it clicks. Then you will no it works with out any leaks. If the fuel cap is leaking, have the cap pressure tested, I believe it should hold to 26.* p.s.i. Replace fuel filler cap if needed.
Replace it with a new cap. Do not attempt to repair the broken one.
