Any television is capable of supporting any gaming console. The television merely requires the correct video input panel for proper use. The Wii U has both a HDMI port and a standard AVI port which can be found on old and new televisions (Red,Yellow,White ports). A HDMI cable will provide the best video quality compared to the AVI cable.

Yes the Wii displays on a flat screen TV. Any flat screen will be able to handle the Wii just fine. If you want better picture quality then you can pick up the component cables and connect the Wii to your television that way. It is actually preferred if you have a flat screen tv.

Wii and Wii U will both work on any size television. To see the detail of the HD output of the Wii U, a larger screen might be useful but people get as much fun from a Wii playing on a 15 inch screen as they do playing on a 50 inch screen. Just connect it to whatever size television you have and enjoy it.
