The Bible says make a music to the lord , with harps, string instruments and other Musical Instruments in the Old Testament but in the new which we live under it says to sing and give praise unto the lord and make melody in your hearts unto the lord. no where does it instruct us to use mechanical instruments of any kind. David used harps chimes and cymbal's but he also lived under the mosaic law which we do not live under. he was commanded to do this along with burning insents, give animal sacrifices and burn fire in the temple we do not nor are we commanded to do this either. Christan's of today are not ruled by the the old law of the prophets but the new covenant of Jesus. Jesus said i have not come to put destroy the old law (law of moses and the 10 commandments) but to fulfill the law. once the law is fulfilled it is done and a new era begins with Christ's death on the cross.

Instruments were a very important part of worship in the Old Testament. David was a musician and "played before the Lord", there were required for the temple worship, especially at the time of sacrifice.

See this: The priests stood at their posts, and the Levites also, with the instruments of music to the LORD, which King David had made for giving praise to the LORD--"for His lovingkindness is everlasting"--whenever he gave praise by their means, while the priests on the other side blew trumpets; and all Israel was standing. II Chronicles 7:6.

They are not mentioned specifically in the New Testament, but hymns are, and given the history of the people, it would be assumed that they used instruments.

A New Testament perspective:The New Testament makes no mention of musical instruments being used in first-century church worship.

To some, that omission means that there should be no instrumental music in worship; only a capella singing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). To others, "silence gives assent," and instrumental music is considered permissible because it isn't expressly forbidden.

Considering the caution not to "think beyond what is written" (1 Corinthians 4:6), and recorded incidents of God's extreme displeasure when men went beyond or outside His instruction - whether a thing was "expressly forbidden" or not - the former position is soundly in keeping with Scripture; the latter is questionable, as it leans upon assumptions without solid foundations, and it smacks of compromise with worldliness (1 John 2:15).

Where in the Bible does it say not to use musical instruments?

It doesn't say that in the Bible. Many people in the Bible used musical instruments. eg 1Samuel 18:10 And it happened on the next day that the distressing spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied inside the house. So David played music with his hand, as at other times; but there was a spear in Saul's hand. 2Samuel 6:5 Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the LORD on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals. 1Chronicles 13:8 Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets.
