It goes around the thermostat if you are talking about the Chevy S10 4.3L engine.
In both the 5.4 and the 4.6 the "O" ring gasket goes above the thermostat.
No, the O-Ring is the only one.
follow the top radiator hose down to engine block. there will be a fitting there that you have to unbolt to get to thermostat. make sure to place new thermostat in housing the same direction the old one was facing.note whether gasket or o-ring went in front of or behind thermo. if gasket, it is best to coat it with permatex no. 2 gasket maker before installing. if o-ring simply install.
The thermostat housing is directly under the exhaust man. on the backside of the motor. There are two 8mm bolts straight down going into the lower fixed hose. Be sure to have a fresh O-ring to go around the thermostat.
sounds like yours is broken.1 thermostat and 1 o-ring or gasket
yes unless it's aftermarket and has an o ring.
Drain the engine cooling system so that the engine coolant level is below the water thermostat .Raise vehicle on hoist. See General Information.Disconnect the lower radiator hose and degas bottle hose from the water inlet connection.Remove the two water inlet connection retaining bolts. Remove the water inlet connection.Remove the O-ring seal and water thermostat from the water thermostat housing. Inspect O-ring for damage and replace if necessary. If required, remove water bypass hose from water thermostat housing and remove water thermostat housing retaining bolts, water thermostat housing and O-ring from oil filter adapter . Inspect O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
# Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. # Drain the cooling system. # Disconnect and position the lower radiator hose out of the way. NOTE Use care so that coolant does not get on the drive belt. # Remove the bolts and the thermostat housing. # Remove the thermostat and the O-ring. To install: NOTE Clean all the sealing surfaces and inspect the O-ring seals thoroughly. # Replace the thermostat and the O-ring. # Install the bolts and the thermostat housing.Install the air cleaner outlet tube to the shown torque # Connect the lower radiator hose.
Thermostat Removal & Installation Drain and recycle the engine coolant. Remove the upper radiator hose at the thermostat housing. Remove 2 thermostat housing retaining bolts and remove the housing. Remove the thermostat and O-ring from the lower intake manifold. Discard the O-ring. To Install: Clean the O-ring sealing surfaces. Install a new O-ring, on the thermostat and position the thermostat in the lower intake manifold. Place the thermostat housing on the lower intake manifold and install 2 retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm). Fill the engine cooling system. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature while checking for coolant leaks. Road test the vehicle and check for proper engine operation. Check the coolant level and add if necessary.
The thermostat is located inside the radiator. Remove the radiator cap and pull the thermostat up. Remember to put the replacement thermostat in the same position push the new thermostat down in the radiator. The O-ring gasket will automatically seal.
