1996 ford ranger Odometer and Trip gauge don't work but Speedometer works. How can I fix this Thanks?

Speedometer is ran by electronic sensor on rear end. Odometer is ran from speedometer. If both don't work problem is sensor. If speedometer works sensor is okay. If speedometer works and odometer does not problem is in mechanical parts (gears) of of odometer and has to be replaced. Can get used from eBay (search for speedometer or odometer, is one unit) or take to dealer.

Lub Odometer cable on 2005 Chevu Malibu?

There is no odometer/speedometer cable in that vehicle. The odometer/speedometer is electronic.

Why would your speedometer and odometer stop working on your 1996 or newer Ford Taurus Mercury Sable?

Most likely a loose connection or bad sensor it is electronic

Why will the speedo work on a 1996 Nissan 200sx but the trip and odometer will not?

The odometer runs on the same electronic gear driven sensor as the speedometer so if the speedometer is working and the odometer is not the problem is in the "Speed head" (speedometer unit in the dash). Mine and several others I have seen break at about 40,000 and will need replacing.

Is odometer on 94 town ace cable driven or electronic?

Electronic and not cable.

If the speed sensor is bad will it cause the fuse to burn out for the odimeter?

The odometer gets its signal from the speed sensor, so if the (tailshaft) speed sensor is bad then the odometer obviously will not work

2003 Tahoe speed meter is broken?

Have your mechanic check the speedometer cable connections. They no longer use a cable. It is electronic. If the speedometer is not working but the odometer is, the problem is in the dash cluster. If both the speedometer and odometer are not working, the speed sensor in the transmission may be at fault.

How do you replace the odometer sensor on a 1996 Ford Taurus?

There is no such thing as an "odometer sensor." There is a vehicle speed sensor that is located on the output shaft housing of the transmission. That sends info to the speedometer. From there, the speedometer and the odometer are both operated internally, so if your speedo is working, but the odometer isn't, you have a problem inside the speedo head assembly.

Where is the odometer cable on a 96 Ford Explorer?

I believe that 1995 was the last year for a conventional speedometer cable on a Ford Explorer , and then Ford went to an electronic speedometer with a vehicle speed sensor

Where is the speed and or odometer sensor located on a 2007 kj Jeep Cherokee?

The speedometer/ odometer signals come from the ABS sensors. There is a sensor at each wheel bearing.

Why does your 1990 GMC Sierra 1500 odometer occassionally stop working?

Speed sensor While yes the speed sensor can cause the odometer to quit working the speedometer will quit at the same time. If you have the electronic cluster (the orange bar with the white behind it) there is a motor that runs the odometer and that can stop working. That cluster is designed to where you can replace just that unit, although I don't know where you'll be able to find a decent working one. -answered by Sye

When you replace a speedometer head on a 1994Mercury Cougsr XR7 is the speedomoter head under the car or in dashboard?

the speed sensor is located on the side of the transmission, there is no physical cable like the older cars, the speedometer and sensor are electronic. If the speedometer is working and showing speed traveled but the trip meter (odometer) is not working, the speedometer itself is faulty, is the speedometer is not showing speed travel and the odometer is not logging miles travel, then most likely the speed sensor is dead.
