What causes a gas hot water pilot lite to go out?

No, that is part of the function of the pilot light. To light the burner and to keep the gas valve open. The thermocouple sits in the flame of the pilot and produces a small electrical current that keep the gas valve open. When the tank cools down, the thermostat opens the valve to the burner so that it can light. When the pilot goes out, it is usually the thermocouple that is bad.

I have Sears Garage door opener lights don't work but it still opens closes okay changed bulbs but stiil does not work?

Looks like thermocouple is defective. (bulb ok.) Sears Mod.# 139 653 000 Do you have a new thermocouple switch in stock ? Thank You. Regsrds. George Kunzle 92 Pine Ridge Rd. Wilton CT. 06897

What should you do if your gas water heater is not producing hot water?

(1) the gas is cut off; (2)the pilot light blew out and is not igniting the burner; (3)the thermostat is set too low for your requirements; (3)the thermocoupler is bad; (4)the pressure relief valve is stuck in the open position and discharging the hot water. 1,2,& 3 are self-explanatory. The thermocoupler is a bullet-shaped sensor located near the burner - it senses the temperature and turns the gas on or off to the burner according to the setting of the thermostat. The pressure relief valve is usually located at the top of the water heater on the hot water line and leads to the floor and under the house (separate from regular service hot water line) - it opens when the temperature of the water is too hot and discharges the hot water to keep the heater tank from over-heating and exploding. Hope this helps. Answer one is very good, but there is one error which requires correction. The thermocouple does NOT, as described in answer one, act as a demand thermostat for turning the main burner gas ON and OFF. The demand thermostat probe extends from the back of the gas control valve INTO the water INSIDE the heater tank. On the other hand, the thermocouple is located so as to be IN THE PILOT FLAME. Its purpose is to determine the presense of the pilot flame, and if the pilot flame goes out, the thermocouple will cool down, at which time, it TURNS OFF the gas TO THE PILOT. This is a safety feature designed to prevent the continued release of gas, which which if gaining contact with an open flame or any spark, would result in a devastating explosion.j3h.

What are the standards for safety valves-?

safety valve in accordance with the requirements of Article VIII of the ASME code for pressure vessel applications, which is within 10% overpressure that opens and closes in 7%.

WHY My garage door opens but does not close?

Check your safety sensors. Most likely they are out of balance. You should have a steady burning light on them. If not, slowly move them to the direction of the other safety sensor. That should take care of it.

What is the difference between a safety switch and a transfer switch?

Transfer switch means it can transfer the energy from one point to another point. safety switch has automatically control ex: in boilers there are some safety control devices if the preesure/temp exceeds the limit it will automatocally opens. sets the condition. safety switches also work like this.

What is safety valve?

It is a device that opens on its own if a certain condition is reached. Let's say you are designing a water heater. You know if everything goes wrong the unit could reach 210 degrees F, or to have 150psi pressure inside it. You also know if either of those things happen the water heater could explode...so you put a safety valve on it that opens if either condition is reached.

Does the 2000 Volkswagen Passat have the LATCH safety system?

As far as I can see, because I crawled into the trunk to open the trunk so I could repair the mechanism that opens the trunk. No!
