There are lots of people who share their home remedy head lice successes on the internet. But, none have ever been scientifically proven.
The basis of wanting to use Vaseline is that you will suffocate the lice. But, the reality is that lice have evolved to hold their breath for many hours. You would need to leave it on your head for several hours (4-8 hours).
Vaseline is also very difficult to get out of the hair. It may require using dish soap and several washings to remove all of the greasy residue.
