If you call a GM dealer and give them the VIN# they will tell you the gear ratio if you ask them. PARTS DEPARTMENT
There are four ways to find a ratio. 1 A dealer can normally tell from the vin number. ( they have to run it through their computer system ) 2 There are normally tags or labels on the axle that have part number, gear ratio, and fluid requirement info. 3 You can count how many times you have to turn the driveshaft to get one complete turn of the tires. 4 You can divide the number of teeth on the ring gear and divide by number of teeth on the pinion. <<>> On a more general note the axle ratio is set by the need to have the vehicle travelling at its maximum speed (on the level with no wind) when the engine is producing maximum power. Any other axle ratio will give a slower maximum speed.
If you call a GM dealer and give them the VIN# they can tell you what gear ratio you have.
the only way i fount that was take id number to Chevy dealer and they give you a print out of every thing that came on your vehicle.including differental gear ratio.
All you need to do is call a Chevy dealer and give them the VIN# and asked them what the gear ratio is in your truck and they will tell you what the factory gear ratio is.
9 to 41 gives a ratio of 4.5555 to 1.
In a sense yes and in a sense no. A Lower axle ratio will provide better MPG, but will not do as good on the towing, High will give more towing power but less MPG. I recommend the 2nd lowest axle ratio available (if 1 or 2 only then go with the lowest)!
This page shall answer your question. Multiply the ratio of the gear (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) vs the differential and that will give you the total gear ratio. http://www.off-road.com/trucks4x4/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=277696
I want to know how a manual transmission gear ratio worked. What ratio give the car mor power and what give the car mor speed.
They do vary, I would take your trim tag info from inside the glove box and your VIN from the dash and check with your dealer; that should give you the ratio for your car. Mark any year above I think '79 is stamped right into the axle housing
the front should be wahever the back is. count them on the ring gear then count the pinoin and devide that and it will give you the gear ratio
its either 355 or 373 there are tags on diff that give you numbers
