Dark rum is often aged longer, but not necessarily and often has a caramel coloring added. The calories in it are based on the alcohol content. Higher proof = more alcohol = more calories, but the color really has nothing to do with it.

Bottom line - Enjoy the one you prefer the most.

And stay away from sugary mixers, they add the most to your calorie count.
