semi floating axles on E150. Full floating on E250 and E350
Depending on the market and the model, full floating rear axles started appearing about 1976 - in the 45 series and others. Most rear axles in North America were semi-floating until about 1992, when the 80 series all came with full floating axles and rear disc brakes. There are far too many market and axle possibilities to make a blanket statement about what may or may not have been equipped with full floating axles and when.
It is semi floating rear axel

Depends upon the Axle Ratio - IF both axles are Full Floating Rear Axles, AND the Same Ratio ( i.e. Sterling 10.25 with 3.55 OR 4.10 Ratio ) then I would think that they should work - Provided that BOTH axles are Sterling ( Ford Factory ), and Same Ratio. . . . . Differential Carriers ( part that holds the Ring Gear ) are different for different Ratios
Front: Dana model 44 full-floating solid axle. Multi-leaf special springs. Standard axle ratio 2.73:1 Rear: AMC semi-floating solid axle. Multi-leaf special springs. Standard axle ratio 2.73:1

to change from 8 to 5 lugs on axle, you will need to buy a complete new diff housing and change it wheel to wheel. 5 lug wheels are smaller than 8 lug wheels and most 250 have a full floating axle.while the 5 lug axles are usually a semi floating axle you will also need to buy matching front diff and axle housing if you try just changing the axle hub and axles you will find the 5 lug axles are shorter in length .u will also find that the brakes on 5 lug are smaller so you will be loosing braking power typically u will need wheel to wheel housings, axles, and brakes from a f150
