THC- MARIJUANA ACTIVE INGREDIENT THC, THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT in marijuana that makes you "high", is a helpful drug for certain diseases, and it may help treat lung cancer . In addition, it helps relieve SYMPTOMS of diseases or side-effects of certain treatments. For instance, for cancer patients, it helps calm their nerves, helps control pain to a certain degree, and helps settle their stomach and reduce vomiting; but most of all, it makes them "hungry". One horrible side effect of chemo is the total loss of appetite, which decreases nutrition and adds to weight loss, which is the LAST thing a cancer patient needs. Marijuana or THC, has been shown to help in the above problems. In fact, any disease or treatment that makes someone not want to eat, and that becomes in important issue, in many cases THC will increase ones appetite. THC has been shown, in some cases, to slow the advancement of glaucoma. Also, with people with AIDS who are too skinny, are helped to feel hungry and fight off the rapid weight loss.

Cancer is an abnormal growth in the body, cells affected do not follow the normal growth signals for the particular cell, called apoptosis. THC actually helps in the process getting this signal to tumors so they stop dividing and die.

According to the American Cancer Society (which you would assume has accurate information).

"...THC and other cannabinoids such as CBD slow growth and/or cause death in certain types of cancer cells growing in laboratory dishes. Some animal studies also suggest certain cannabinoids may slow growth and reduce spread of some forms of cancer.

[as of 2016] There have been some early clinical trials of cannabinoids in treating cancer in humans and more studies are planned. While the studies so far have shown that cannabinoids can be safe in treating cancer, they do not show that they help control or cure the disease. Relying on marijuana alone as treatment while avoiding or delaying conventional medical care for cancer may have serious health consequences."

So there are some promising studies that suggest that THC and other cannabinoids MAY help in cancer treatments but we don't know for sure yet. Until more complete studies are finished just firing up a doobie to treat your cancer is not a good idea.

What is the behavior of cancer cells?

According to Dr. Otto Heinrich Warburg (Nobel Prize Winner 1931), the cells change from being 'Aerobic' (oxygen fueled) to become 'Anaerobic' (sugar Fueled). From then oxygen actually becomes toxic to them, which is why they spread their Anaerobic state to other cells and the cancer spreads. Cancer that does spread is malignant Cancer that doesnt spread is benign

How does the cancer affect the cell cycle?

Cancer can disrupt the normal regulation of the cell cycle, leading to uncontrolled cell division and tumor formation. Mutations in genes that control cell cycle checkpoints can allow cancer cells to bypass mechanisms that normally prevent excessive cell growth. This disruption of the cell cycle can contribute to the unchecked proliferation of cancer cells.
