Yes, under most conditions you can use overdrive. If you are pulling a heavy trailer, or the vehicle is heavily loaded, I would recommend you don't. If at anytime you a driving loaded and the transmission starts changing gears constantly, you should disengage the overdrive.

Easier to say when NOT to use overdrive - which is basically when pulling heavy loads and traveling in very hilly / mountainous areas.

Do you put a 2005 Jeep Wrangler in overdrive when not towing?

I am a bit confused. Overdrive is a high gear used for highway purposes. You should always try to use overdrive unless the Jeep is under a heavy load or climbing hills. Thus when towing it's probably best to not to use overdrive.

How does the overdrive work on 2001 ford E350?

On most of the newer transmissions a electric selonoid is what engages and disengages overdrive and if you havent noticed there is a button on the end of the shift lever on the steering column also there is a fuse have you checked to see if it is blown.

Should you use overdrive when driving a 2000 ford explorelimited?

Overdrive is the normally allowed position . It won't shift into overdrive until the speed is faster anyway . On my 1995 Ford Explorer it doesn't shift into overdrive until I'm travelling about 50 miles per hour ( if you are towing or driving in hilly country where the transmission is constantly downshifting then you don't use overdrive )
