When changing anything electrical in a car, it is important to have a diagram. An electrical wiring diagram for this car can be found in the maintenance manual.
Possible options: * blower motor * electrical connection * switch assembly * resistor assembly * fuse There may be other possibilities but that's all I can think of at the moment.
The blower motor/hampster cage on caprice year 80-85 is found by the fire wall on the passenger side of the vehice
If the heater fan on your 1991 Caprice only works on "High" the problem is more than likely the resister assembly in your blower circuit or poor connections at the resister assembly. When the switch is in the "high" position the current does not flow through the resister assembly it flows directly to the coil of the blower relay. When the switch is in "low", "medium 1", or "medium 2" position the current flows through 1, 2, or all 3 of the resistors in the resistor assembly which results in the 3 different lower speeds. Check the resister assembly and replace if needed.
The blower motor of a 95 Chevy Caprice is located in the left, rear area of the engine compartment. It acts as the fan which operates the air conditioner and heater.
Under the dash on the passengers side................Disconnect the negative battery cable.Remove the 4 retaining screws and remove the right side instrument panel sound insulator.Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.Remove the right side hinge pillar trim finish panel by pulling it away from the front body hinge pillar.Remove the screw from the secondary ECM bracket and swing the ECM module and bracket aside to provide access to the blower motor.Remove the blower mounting screws, leaving the screw closest to the relay for last. Carefully lower the blower motor fan assembly and remove.
Can't give you a diagram but the blower speed resistor is under the hood, on the passenger side firewall not far from the blower motor in plain sight.
behind the glove compartment, under the dash.
lower right dash, underneath the glovebox
the heater blower fan is in the heater housing assembly on the passenger side. You need to take out the whole housing assembly in order to access the blower.
You can find a wiring diagram for a blower motor resistor in the owner's manual. You can also check with local supply stores.
it is next to the firewall near the heater coil
