I had one do that and it was caused by a bad intake valve.
spark plug gap, gas/air mixture on carb.
Its fuel injected doesnt have a carb.
car has jumped it/s timing.retart timing approx 5 degrees,it should start.
possible need carb rebuild, or a flat cam lobe . Could be timing or bad timing chain.
timing or carb
Check your timing and your vacuum advance.
sounds like you are ready for anew carb.,go to webber carb. direct and order a webber 32/36 carb. u will be a happy Nissan man.
if it backfires it could be timing or else you have it flooded from trying to start it. You didn't say if the engine is carb or fuel injected. If it is carbed, let it sit for awhile to let the gas drain out of the carb. If it is fuel injected then it is probably timing. year make and model of vehic and millage
you did't specify if it is carburetor or fuel injection.if the backfire is out the exhaust or through the intake. if out the exaust it is usually ignition and if it is through the intake/carb or the plenum/fuel injected it usually is a lean or fuel starvation...
Perhaps timing chain has jumped, Worn cam lobes, Firing order mixed up, Accelerator pump failure (carburetor), Faulty distributor cap,
timing problem or crossed plug wire or even possibly a burnt valve.
it is the carb. my uncles did the same thing. you need to have them cleaned and have them put in sync
